Cruising through the scenic bayous with Captain Jason was a highlight of my trip to Louisiana. The boat felt completely safe, the scenery was amazing, we saw lots of wildlife, even in December, and our captain was knowledgeable and funny. And I got to hold a baby alligator that they were rehabilitating due to a missing foot. It was so cool.

Jean Lafitte Swamp Tours provided us with a wonderful adventure!! Drive up tours are $29.00 for adults and $12.00 for children ages 3-12. If you are visiting from out of town transportation can be provided. The cost is $52.00 for adults and $26.00 for children. Captain Louis provided us with a fun filled tour that was educational as well as enjoyable. He truly has a vast amount of knowledge regarding alligators and the swamp. In addition, he has a great sense of humor and good rapport with the guests. I never realized how intriguing of an ecosystem exists in the swamp until I ventured out for a swamp tour. We were fortunate enough to have an opportunity to see an eagle’s nest, a variety of turtles, birds, and of course alligators. We saw one alligator that had to be very old due to its size and weight. The ecosystem is fascinating and provides an excellent opportunity to practice your photography skills if you desire. Jean Lafitte Swamp Tours is an adventure worth taking for both young and old. Also, no two tour will ever be alike so if you have been once do not hesitate to return. I loved the Cajun music upon our return to the dock. Also, there is a bonus surprise but I don’t want to ruin it so I will leave that surprise for your imagination. Once your tour is completed and if you are hungry there is an amazing restaurant that is close by called Restaurant des Familles’. We were able to enjoy a great lunch with a view of the bayou after our tour. This swamp tour was a wonderful way to end our 2019 with one final adventure. Thanks Jean Swamp Tours for delivering another amazing adventure!

This tour is very efficiently organised. Tickets can be booked online and if you are staying closer to the French Quarter, there are many convenient pick-up stops. A bus will pick you and the swamp is around 30 minutes away. If you have never had an experience of the swamps, then this will be a quiet and nice experience. If the weather is warm, you will surely have several alligator sightings. There are benches to sit on and enjoy the one hour swamp tour. Else you may stand too. The narrator and the “captain of the ship” was excellent too. He kept us entertained all through the tour with his one-liners.
