C.M. Russell Museum
Born in 1864 in St. Louis, Charles M. Russell grew up fascinated by tales of the Wild West. He traveled to Montana in 1880 and made a life on the frontier, working first as a cowboy and then a night wrangler, leaving his days free to observe and sketch working cowboys. Once a full-time artist, Russell moved with his wife the short distance from Cascade to Great Falls, where he built his home and studio. Over the course of his life he created around 4,000 works of art that reside in both public and private collections throughout the country.    Although primarily focused on the works of the local artist, the C.M. Russell Museum also includes numerous collections of other western artists whose works complemented the themes that so intrigued Russell throughout his lifetime as well as the original Russell Home and Studio.

Looking for something to do while staying in Great Falls. Opted to try the C.M. Russell Museum. Well worth the time and cost to visit. Gives a history of one of Montana's most well-known artists as well as featuring other artists. Includes his home and studio. A hidden gem.

Your admission includes Russell's studio and home. Don't miss these places! Both are right next to the museum. You can gain insight on how he worked and his home life. The museum is well laid out and I learned a great deal.

Great Falls is proud to have been the home of the truly gifted artist, Charlie Russell. This museum celebrates his life here, his works of art, bronzes and paintings but also his personal life and the art he did for fun and gifts. This museum also hosts many other artists, beautiful displays of native wares and an extensive gun collection. Something for everyone! I didn't have young children with me and probably wouldn't have taken them until we got to the last area in the downstairs which was set up as a kid zone with toys, activities and a tepee. I'm certain they would have had fun. Please enjoy this important glimpse of Great Falls' hometown treasure.
