The Alaska Native Cultural Adventure and Ketchikan Tour was AMAZING! We were in Ketchikan in late April, too early for the salmon BUT fortunate to be the only ones on the tour. We got a customized tour and saw a lot more than we would with a big group. Dan from Clan House Tours shared a whole lot of information about Ketchikan, Alaska, Haida culture and so much more. We crammed in so many spectacular things, we were cutting it close to the last shuttle and wanted to go to a local Indigenous artists shop. Dan offered to take us directly to the ship and waited while we bought some souvenirs. We can't say enough good things about our day in Ketchikan. When we get back we will certainly be calling on Clan House Tours for our next adventure!

So much more than a nature walk with a good story, this experience gave insight into the gathering of native plants, creating art, song and generational stories. We felt fortunate to be guided by a Clan carrier for the family. Ginger was a wealth of knowledge and taught us about the culture and customs. One core value shared with us was Haa Aaní- this allows the people to revere the land and to use it at the same time. On our nature walk, we saw many examples of stewardship, respect and gratitude. We were also honored to visit the Clan House at Totem Bight State Historic Park. We were given knowledge of the designs on the outside, how to enter, and the meaning of the totems surrounding. Inside the house was one large room with a central fireplace surrounded by a planked platform. Although each tour is probably unique, our guide shared a song in the center. Wow! Humbling. This land has always been their home. This is where the spirits of their ancestors live. This is where future children will live. There is a palpable pride of place here. We're so grateful that we were trusted with the journey and the stories. Photo taken by Ginger (guide)
