Alaska Railroad Seward to Anchorage One Way

Overview

Departing from downtown Seward at 6pm, the Coastal Classic Train travels north along the rugged coastline of Turnagain Arm, with dramatic views of the Chugach Mountains plunging directly to the sea. At the end of Turnagain Arm, the tracks veer away from the road system into the backcountry wilderness – and what many consider to be the most scenic stretch of the Alaska Railroad, accessible only by train. Watch for views of massive glaciers, steep river canyons, and cascading waterfalls. The train arrives in Anchorage at 10:15pm.

The staff were fantastic, so personable and fun. They will actually slow the train down so people can get good photo ops of animals or mountains. And then, of course, the scenery. No matter where you are sitting, you will have an amazing view.

I'm so glad I chose this experience for my family. The regular fares were sold out, so I upgraded to Gold Star. It was a phenomenal day. The food was great and the service could not have been better. Very attentive and friendly staff, including the conductor, cafe wait staff, and bartender. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and we saw so much wildlife! We saw moose, bears, bald eagles, porcupines, and sheep out the magnificent windows. Look out for "eagle alley" very close to Seward, and Dall Sheep near Anchorage. The food was outstanding, and food and drinks are included with Gold Star. This route was spectacular! Glaciers, mountains, estuaries, rivers, and waterfalls made for jaw-dropping views the entire way.
