What To Expect

Alcatraz Island

Once you take the ferry over to Alcatraz Island and you are dropped off, you will make your way up to the main prison building, where you receive an audio headset, and the audio tour will guide you through the Alcatraz Prison. Once the audio tour is over, you can continue taking pictures and exploring the Island, or you can walk back down to the ferry landing and hop on the next ferry headed back to San Francisco. The Alcatraz tour typically takes 2-3 hours to enjoy.

It was a very interesting tour. The island is beautiful with two gardens and lots of old buildings. The jail cells are also interesting sure glad I have never seen one until now! As far as the tour I would book directly with the national park service instead. It would have been so much cheaper, and you don’t have to go pick up tickets at a different location. We booked the tour and bike package, was not aware you can’t do both in one day. After we went to pick up our tickets which was a pain, we decided to just do the Alcatraz tour and forgo the bikes altogether. We have our own bikes since we have our rv here, we will use our own to bike the Golden Gate Bridge.
