What To Expect

Alcatraz Island

Once you take the ferry over to Alcatraz Island and you are dropped off, you will make your way up to the main prison building, where you receive an audio headset, and the audio tour will guide you through the Alcatraz Prison. Once the audio tour is over, you can continue taking pictures and exploring the Island, or you can walk back down to the ferry landing and hop on the next ferry headed back to San Francisco. The Alcatraz tour typically takes 2-3 hours to enjoy.

If you want to pay double the price to go to Alcatraz and go on the bay cruise then this is your best bet. If you would like to save money then just book these things individually. This is not a deal whatsoever. Just some guy reselling tickets for twice the price. Ridiculous.

Unfortunately, instead of talking directly to us regarding your concerns, you chose the anonymity of leaving a scathing review while omitting some important details. The price you paid was clearly stated when you purchased this on Viator. Alcatraz is the number one tourist attraction in Northern California. It sells out regularly raising the market value to a premium. Alcatraz tickets are not easy to come by and all combination tours range from $165.00 - $180.00. Since you purchased this tour product on Viator, you need to account for the 25% that Viator takes as their commission. Alcatraz is always worth a visit. Prices are on the higher-end. Alcatraz Island is not in a good shape and it is a shame that the National Park Service is not investing in visible improvements.

Interesting visit but, we ended up paying 525$ (3 persons) for a tour that costs 41$ per person… We had to talk to different intermediaries and we’re given a group ticket bearing the name of someone else. Anyway, I paid $400 more than the regular fare and I had to come home with a group ticket that wasn’t even in my name: a scandal. for lack of time, we could not make the short bike ride… a calamitous organization has an exorbitant price. Customer Service did everything to help me but, frankly, they should not sponsor the mafia drifts of an activity sold 4 times its price. my advice: buy your tickets directly on site (there is room on the same day), at the right price.

May, June, July, and August are the four months that constitute the "Peak Season." in SF and the month's Alcatraz is always sold out. Your specific situation was unfortunate and we apologize that you were able to purchase an Alcatraz Combo on a day we had no tickets available. Instead of resolving the issue by canceling and refunding you, we sought out the necessary tickets and paid $125.00 per Adult from a competitor. That coupled with the 25% Viator takes as a commission, put us at a loss. We resolved the issue and you went to Alcatraz as was your plan. We are not responsible for your decision to purchase this tour product. The price you paid never changed. We provided exactly what we advertised and went out of our way financially so as not to disappoint you. By the way, the person you called "the mafia drifts" is an honest, hardworking, family man.
