It's a lovely place!!! but I see it more as a beautiful outdoor setting to enjoy more than a place to view all kinds of flowers (as to me, "botanic garden" would signify). there are lots of trees and lawns and wooded paths. we mostly only saw flowers in the conservatory and the rose garden - which were both fantastic! it was hotter than we expected so took the tram even though normally I'd rather walk. if you can find a parking spot on the street save your $22.

It was hot. 85-90 degrees. I strongly suggest you arrive close to opening and go straight to the Main Tram Stop. Ride it all the way around to determine where everything is and where you want to go first. I did just that, and it was the only time I saw a tram in action. I walked from the empty main tram stop to the library. I planned to take the tram to the rose garden, which are about as far apart as possible. Afterward, I waited for a tram. And waited. None came. The ticket person at the library informed me that the trams were being refueled. Luckily, the maps are comprehensive. I found myself on a dirt trail in a forest with pretty waterfalls. In the Bronx. Imagine that. I figured I would take the tram from the rose garden back to the main stop. None came. I walked to the next tram stop, then the next, then the next. 75% of my four-hour visit entailed walking in the hot sun along the tram path. I had come on a bus with a group, and literally had to race to get to the bus on time. The only place I saw to fill water bottles were at the main buildings. I was overheated, dehydrated and dusty from walking on the forest trails. The flowers were nice. Ebony Patterson's art installations were interesting.
