The terrestrial nature of the forest attracts pileated woodpeckers, red shoulder hawks, and the curious anhinga, sometimes referred to as the “water turkey.” The protected makeup of Lofton Creek means paddling here is “weather resistant” to tumultuous coastal conditions. A south-bound paddle on Lofton Creek provides picturesque marsh views, whereas a north-bound paddle is a more remote, forested experience. Will was a great guide. We had a small group of seven with various levels of experience. Will gave a brief tutorial and we were off and on the water in no time. We paddled against a mild current north and then had the luxury of the current to bring us back. The boat launch was easy to find and there were clean restrooms available. A beautiful way to connect with nature and make new acquaintances!

It had been a while since our last kayak expedition so we opted for a peaceful trip down Lofton Creek. After some brief instructions from our guide, Will, we headed off. Will was very friendly and did an excellent job sharing his knowledge of the plants, birds and history. We will definity book a trip with Amelia Island Tours next time we visit.

Very relaxing kayak trip. We lucked up and were the only ones on the tour (Monday morning) so we got the "private tour". The creek we paddled was very calm and Will (tour guide) did a great job! Will definitely do again if we return to Amelia Island.
