Overview

The Lofton Creek Kayak Tour is perfect for paddlers of any level, including children and beginners. It’s an intimate nature experience in which participants can expect to get up close and personal with turtles, alligators, snakes, otters, and occasionally, manatees. The terrestrial nature of the forest attracts pileated woodpeckers, red shoulder hawks, and the curious anhinga, sometimes referred to as the “water turkey.” The protected makeup of Lofton Creek means paddling here is “weather resistant” to tumultuous coastal conditions. A south-bound paddle on Lofton Creek provides picturesque marsh views, whereas a north-bound paddle is a more remote, forested experience. I was at the beach with my two children. It was Saturday and I was trying hard to find something unique (for us) to do. I saw a small ad for Amelia Adventures kayaking in a pamphlet in the hotel. I call and they were able to get us in Sunday at 10:45 am. We arrived at the boat ramp and Stacey, our guide, was there ready to welcome us like we were family. I found out that my children had already been kayaking multiple times (they live with their mother). So, I was the newby! Stacey was fantastic. He was able to talk about anything we saw and answer any questions. Another thing that was so great is that I didn't realize they would be taking all the pictures (31 in all) and that they were all included in the price. I definitely want to take another one of their tours.

This is my second adventure with Amelia Adventures and it was a great experience as usual! Thomas and Catherine are very kind and accommodating, my first choice for any outdoor activity on the island. This summer I tried a SUP lesson— it lasted about two hours and my group consisted of just 3 people, which provided the opportunity for one-on-one attention. At the beginning of the lesson, we go into the water with our paddle boards one at a time, getting time to learn how to paddle correctly and efficiently. When I got a little motion sick (take Dramamine if you have a sensitive stomach like me!) I had no problem pulling over to rest a bit. I would definitely try a SUP tour next time now that I have the basics! Last year I kayaked, choosing the Egan’s Creek Kayak tour, a good one for beginners. You get your money’s worth with the length of the tours and the customer service. They also capture great photos of you out on the water!! (Attaching a couple of mine) Would recommend to anyone at any level of experience.
