I first visited the museum 7 years ago on my first time in NY, and I remember vividly wandering around endlessly while reading as many plaques and inscriptions I could. Few weeks ago my girlfriend and I visited the museum as we always do in every major city we visit, as we enjoy learning something new about the past and I especially love dinosaurs. We came around 3pm on a rainy day, and while I was ready to pay the full price the cashier told me I could choose how much to pay. I eventually gave 26 usd, which I think was fair for the amount of time we spent inside. We tried to see as much as we could, and in fact we stayed until they told us they would close soon and we better exit the building. We mostly enjoyed the historic exhibitions about countries and the dinosaurs, but in general the entire museum, although aging and in need of revamping, was very educational and it's definitely worth spending both time and money for a visit. I hope not to have to wait other 7 years for my next visit :)

On a cold winter afternoon, a museum visit was the best option during our recent visit to NYC. There was a long line to buy tickets at the main desk, but very few people at the self-serve kiosks, so it took us only a couple of minutes to get our tickets and enter. I had always found the animal dioramas one of the most impressive aspects of this museum; but now after going on safari last year in Africa, I find the dioramas of so many magnificent stuffed beasts a bit disturbing. Yes, they were made during a different era (some nearly 100 years old) when species extinction and poaching wasn't such a huge problem, and modern museums would not utilize this type of display. Some of the displays are looking rather tired, with streaky, clouded glass and dusty elements. Although there are many fascinating displays in this museum, overall it has taken on an aura of shabbiness, with missing or defaced signs, burned out light bulbs, cloudy, greasy glass and deteriorating artifacts. Nevertheless, it's always educational and interesting to visit, and I'm sure we'll be back again on a future visit to NYC. We stayed a couple of hours, until it got quite overheated and crowded, then enjoyed a brisk walk through the Park to return to our hotel.

Beautiful museum and we really enjoyed it. Our favorite part was the space museum and planetarium. So fun
