What a great tour! We visited an Amish farm where a young boy (14 years old) talked about life on his family's Amish farm. He had just graduated from school (8th grade). He was articulate and most impressive. He was very comfortable talking in front of a group of adults. Next stop was at a woodworking business. We were welcomed into the building where the Amish business owner shared all about how his business worked. Six of his ten children came out to join us. They were adorable. Finally, the highlight of the tour...visiting an Amish family in their home. We sat for an hour and had a wonderful conversation with a young Amish couple. They had four beautiful little girls. We were allowed to ask questions, and this couple was open to answering all our questions. This was such a wonderful tour, and my husband and I enjoyed every moment of the tour. Oh, and our tour guide, Jay, was phenomenal. He shared so much history with us as we traveled through Amish country.

This evening bus tour visited three locations where Amish people gave insights into their lives and beliefs. It started at a dairy farm at milking time where our small group were guided by a charming 14 year old Amish boy to watch how the cows were milked, the milk collected and stored. The family all worked together to milk 50 cows in under an hour with modern equipment powered by a diesel generator. This was followed by a visit to a tiny Amish business where an elderly couple made rattan baskets by hand. We were given a demonstration and an amusing series of conversations about anything the group wished to ask. This was not mass production but a genuine cottage industry. The final visit was to a couple's home where we sat in their parlour and talked for an hour with them and their charming daughter. No subject was taboo and they explained their lifestyle, something of their religion and beliefs very openly and engagingly. It was an eye-opening insight into another world which, though full of hard work, was full of happiness and contentment. A diiferent kind of excursion which was well-worth the asking price.
