If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing tour around the bay and surrounding areas to view marine life and look for whales, this isnāt the tour for you.
Captain Jim took us on a full throttle, balls out, high speed orca chase in high surf and high winds and it was brutal. Windy and very cold. Obviously Captain Jim had no control over weather or conditions, but he did have control over how he handled that boat and it seemed he had little regard to the comfort of his passengers. We were tossed, blown about, bounced up and back down. It felt like riding in the back of a pickup truck on a rutted and unpaved country road at 50mph. I am honestly surprised no one went overboard.
That said however, we did have a nice viewing of a pod of orcas, as well as a bonus humpback sighting. So, mission accomplished there.
The naturalists on board were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and ready with seasick bags and are to be commended for staying upbeat in such trying conditions.

You're right, on windy days it isn't for the faint of heart! We are a high-speed powerboat adventure company, proud to offer guaranteed sightings on our whale watching tours, and we will do whatever it takes to show our guests whales when we have visitors joining us from all over the world on what might be their only chance to see wild orcas. So we are glad you got to see not only orcas but humpback whales too!
We go out in various conditions - sometimes it is indeed a peaceful relaxing tour on perfect days, but other times like your trip it can be more of a thrilling roller coaster ride. Luckily in the Salish Sea we are protected by the surrounding islands so we don't have to deal with extremely rough conditions of the open ocean like Alaska. And in over a decade of tours we haven't lost anyone overboard that we didn't push off ourselves... but that was a consenting crew member so they don't count ;)
We recommend guests check the conditions before booking a tour, and if you have concerns guests can call us 3-4 days before your trip and we can look into availability to reschedule you. Safety is always our #1 priority and we wouldn't go out if it was unsafe. The trip you went on was indeed pretty bouncy, but we have faced far worse conditions
