What To Expect

Greatland Adventures

The aurora borealis is one of the most amazing natural wonders this world has to offer. Join us on a quest to view and photograph the northern lights in and around the Anchorage area. We will use our luxury tour vehicle as a base camp as well as a state of the art portable winter shelter complete with heater, chairs, hot drinks and snacks. We use modern technology to forecast both the space and earth weather each night. The tour only operates on nights that have a reasonable expectation for the lights to be visible. While we cannot guarantee you will see the aurora, if we do operate the tour we have over a 90% success rate of seeing the northern lights. You only pay if we operate the tour. This tour is designed for anyone who has viewing the northern lights on their bucket list including both sightseers and serious photographers. Aurora photography instruction as well as Aurora portraits are provided. Tours generally depart at 9 pm and return at 3 am.

We had a unique situation with weather and we went to a location that was not one of there standards. There seemed to be disorganization as we started out. In the end it was just great situational judgement calls to put us in best location to see the northern lights. We absolutely saw the lights and they take photos for you and I took my own dslr to take pictures and the guides too time to assist in settings and checked on my results. On the way back Steve recognized the special circumstances and we did not have their standard shelter setup and dark locations (we were near airport). So he provided a discount to us - which none of us asked for. Great customer service, good people, I would trust them for any of their tour offers. We were with Steve, Brad, Jonathan, and Scott.

We had a great time on our Anchorage northern lights tour! Steve gave us a realistic expectation on the possibility of seeing northern lights on the date we booked, we decided to remain on joining the tour even being told the lights might not be seen by eyes but through a camera. The whole team was exceptional. They were very knowledgeable, informative, and friendly, learned a bunch of interesting facts about Anchorage, northern lights and moose! The night ended up fun, even though the lights were as predicted low, we enjoyed the beautiful starry night with milky way and lots of shooting stars (not to mention the breathtaking pictures they took during the night). They were also very accommodating to our needs during and even after the tour. We had a great time with them. We highly recommend this wonderful group!

We are so glad you had a great time with us. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others. It is so nice to hear directly from our guests that this tour can be very fun even with low aurora activity. Modern cameras are able to pull in much more light than our eyes can. Hence, on nights with very low aurora activity we can still get some great pictures. And on nights when the lights don't cooperate we can still have a great time staring at the night sky, photographing the Milky Way and even spotting some moose! Our winter shelters, and warm clothing will keep you warm and allow you to enjoy your time out in the Alaskan wilderness.

The Greatland Adventures Northern Lights tour was incredible. They start with very friendly and helpful drivers like Brad and a trip outside Anchorage for the best viewing of the Northern Lights. The display in the September sky on our night left us awestruck. The team made sure that we were warm and comfortable. They took pictures of each of us with the northern lights that will be cherished forever. I highly recommend this tour of a lifetime with these great folks!
