Arches National Park 4x4 Adventure from Moab

Overview
Hop into a Toyota Land Cruiser with your expert guide and head north from Moab to the backcountry entrance of Arches National Park and avoid the crowds.

Our first stop is to see dinosaur footprints. For millions of years this area was teeming with dinosaurs.

We pass Balanced Rock, one of the most iconic features of the Park, standing a staggering 128 feet. Landscape look familiar? Indiana Jones, and Thelma and Louise have scenes shot here.

The 4X4 trail into the backcounty climbs a short but steep rock wall passing sandstone fins, towering pinnacles and tall spires known as the Marching Men. We stop at Tower Arch for an optional hike.

As you travel along the track, hear informative commentary about the geology, wildlife and history of the park.

We make another stop at Eye of the Whale for an optional hike to a seldom visited slick rock playground named Herdina Park.

After exploring the backcountry we exit past the three gossips and Park Avenue before your guide returns you to Moab.

What To Expect
1
Arches National Park
Visit Arches National Park on a 4-wheel drive (4WD) tour that features spectacular sandstone arches and access to areas that most visitors don't see. An expert guide will maneuver your 4WD past red rock highlights such as Marching Men, Tower Arch and Eye of the Whale. Experience these monuments and more up close and learn about the parkā€™s wildlife and history.
2
Mill Canyon Dinosaur Trail
This 5-hour tour even includes a stop to see fossilized dinosaur tracks, left behind millions of years ago when dinosaurs roamed the region.
3
Tower Arch
An optional hike to the awe-inspiring Tower Arch begins at the foot of the bluff, where the 4WD road ends. From here, the route is rocky and steep, though short. Tower Arch itself is very large with a 92-foot span and can be viewed from the trailhead for those opting out.

My wife and I booked a half day tour of Arches NP based on other online reviews. We were blown away by how prepared, skilled, and knowledgeable the whole outfit was. The 80 series Land Cruisers were beastly and well maintained. Josh P was our guide and we had a great time with him. If we get the opportunity to get back to Moab, we will definitely book with Navtec again.. but for a longer tour!

The half-day Arches tour was all I hoped for and more. Ben, was a great driver and guide. He took us on two short hikes, one to "Eye of the Whale" and one to "Tower Arch" which I hadn't expected but found extremely interesting. Ben imparted his vast knowledge of the park to us in an entertaining way. He was generous with his time and stopped for plenty of picture taking, water, and bathroom breaks. The people who run Navtec are are professional and well organized. I highly recommend.

Getting in on tours is always dicey for the solo traveler - just 1 person wonā€™t meet the minimum so youā€™re at the mercy of whether thereā€™s a group you can jump in on or not. I walked in off the street to see about a same-day tour. Instead of seeing that there wasnā€™t space and that was it, the front desk staff took the time to work out a way for me to join the sunset tour of Arches. MC was our guide and he is damn good at what he does. Heā€™s passionate about the area and extremely knowledgeable about the backwoods of the Southwest. I got so many great suggestions for hikes, drives, campsites and points of interest I could spend the summer working through them. Iā€™ve already worked some of them into this trip and Iā€™m keeping the others on the list for later visits. Another pitfall of the solo traveler jumping in on a tour is the group dynamic. I was the odd man out with three other guys on the tour with their family. MC put us all at ease so that this introvert had a great time and genuinely enjoyed the company. I think the other guys would say the same thing. This tour was over the insane Jeep trails through the park but we also got to climb the slick rock near the whaleā€™s eye and another arch (Iā€™m forgetting the name). It was unreal, walking almost vertically up or down with relative ease by virtue of rubber soles sneakers. MC has a calm, encouraging manner that made the climbs seem doable even for someone as afraid of heights as I am. It was a great experience I wouldnā€™t have otherwise had. Even the ride back was beautiful. We left the Jeep trails and drove through the park just as the sun was setting. I would highly recommend everything about this tour.
