Alyeska Pipeline Viewing Point
We begin our 14-hour long journey to the Arctic Circle with a convenient pick up at any hotel or address inside the city limits of Fairbanks or North Pole. Settle into your seat and relax on the 200 mile (322 km) journey down the back roads of Interior Alaska. We provide free snacks and drinks to ensure your utmost comfort in our climate-controlled vans.   Take a trip back in time as you travel down the Dalton Highway. Featured on the TV show Ice Road Truckers, the Dalton Highway (technically Alaska Route 11) runs north-south through Alaska, nearly all the way to the Arctic Ocean, and parallels the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. It’s one of the most isolated roads in the United States and provides some beautiful Alaskan scenery for you to enjoy during the ride. With sweeping views of mountains and valleys, you will see the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline System (TAPS), one of the largest pipeline systems, transporting thousands of gallons of oil from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez, up close.

Tolovana River
Your driver will pull over at several different spots, including the Tolovana River and Wickersham Dome.
3
James Dalton Highway
Travel the remote Dalton Highway to Mile Post 115 to the Arctic Circle Campground.

We went on this trip on October2 and it was mostly a great trip we stopped at the pipeline and the Yukon river and a few other rest stops before getting to the Artic Circle. The driver Bob was an extremely excellent driver/host. He is friendly and easy going. We reached the Artic Circle and had a great time it was cold, no snow but we took pictures and Bob served hot chocolate and coffee here, it was a welcomed treat indeed. One of the goals of this trip for us was to see the famous Northern lights however unfortunately for us it was cloudy the whole time. Here is when the trip for our group went south, we constantly stopped on our return trip, the poor driver tried his best to show us the lights but the return trip took 6 hours because of the constant stopping at the end no one was getting out of the van because of the cloudy night. This trip back should have taken a lot less than 6 hours and to tell you the truth our group just wanted to get home at this point and to make matters worse there was a ride along who constantly smoked and on the return trip home he reeked of cigarette smoke. Now don’t get me wrong the ride along guy was really nice and I am sure that he didn’t want to offend us but because of the poor spirits of the excessively long trip home we were not in the best of spirits anymore. I would recommend that visitors that want to see the northern lights to stay at a lodge instead because it is a lot more comfortable and if nothing happens you can just enjoy a nice warm beverage a snack enjoy your company and go to sleep. Oh, and it beats having to use the bathroom in the great outdoors.

You are correct, we don't want to short-change anyone on the duration of the tour or the number of opportunities to "catch the Lights". That said, we do make it plain on the website that this is a van tour, not a lodge tour, understanding that some like the freedom and vastness of the Alaska tundra while others prefer creature comforts and a fixed location -- which is why we offer lots of choices in our tours. Finally, although fewer people smoke nowadays, we've always had a "no smoking" policy inside the van. However, it is impossible to restrict everyone while outside. Hope you're luckier next time in seeing the Aurora.

Great tour! Unfortunately our weather did not cooperate but we still had a great time. Our guide Lindley was great! Very informative and easygoing. She knew everything about everything. We hit a snowstorm with slick spots but she knew exactly how to handle the van and got us safely back to Fairbanks, all while still telling us interesting information. Great tour, highly recommend!!

Lyndley was an excellent guide, even though the weather wasn’t cooperating we thoroughly enjoyed the drive up to the artic circle and the many beautiful sights on the way. She is great with interacting with all guest and even when we encountered a not so desirable patch of an unexpected snow she was cool and level headed. Highly recommend this tour!
