Although we've lived in CO for most of our lives, we've never toured the Argo Mill in Idaho Springs. We finally got around to it and are glad we did. I wish I could remember the name of our tour leader (tall brunette young woman with a bun) but she was terrific. She was extremely knowledgeable and her enthusiasm was contagious, making the tour fun for the kids in the group as well as the adults. The mill is no longer operational but is well preserved. You get a real sense of how noisy, smelly, uncomfortable, and dangerous mining and milling was in those days before safety regulations. The town of Idaho Springs is also historic for the most part, and it's worth exploring, as well. I highly recommend the tour -- followed by great BBQ and catfish at Smokin Yard's BBQ, which is a short, 15 minute walk from the mill.

ARGO Mill is a monument to enterprise in an arduous time of destruction and construction that won us the comforts of modern times. Helpers for the tour in the gift shop, short bus ride, and guided-tour helped our small group enjoy time well-spent to appreciate the scale and scope of effort in years past. Guide Alli was wonderful!
