When I first drove onto the island I could smell the spice in the air. It was subtle, but it was wonderful! I enjoyed every part of the tour. I could spend as much time reading the history and reviewing the pictures as I wanted. I was stunned to read of the connection with the Arctic tours and Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders. I appreciated that each building also had videos to go over the history. I enjoyed trying the new flavors in the General Store and bought a few new flavors: Sweet and Spicy and the Roasted Pepper Sauce. YUM! We finished up our tour at the 1868 Restaurant. WOW! The food wasn't just good --- it was incredibly good. We shared the Boudin Egg Rolls, the Sampler, and the Chili. It was, without doubt, the best meal we have had in Louisiana (and we just came from New Orleans!)

The self-guided tour was comprehensive and entertaining. The videos complemented the physical portions of the tour...and tasting the spectrum of products added to the experience. The icing on the cake was the included entry to tour the Jungle Gardens conservation area. Highly recommended.

Really interesting, gives you a new appreciation for Tabasco sauce. Little restaurant is pretty good too. Get to smell the barrels, see the giant vats where the vinegar is mixed in, all that stuff. I enjoyed it!
