Bay Fishing South Padre Island

Overview

The fishing on the bay is great fishing, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Whiting, and many others, including Red Fish. Bay fishing trips primarily target tasty sand trout and whiting but customers will also have opportunities to catch red drum and black drum. Customers can also bring their own gear if they desire, but Captain Murphy’s will not be responsible for it.

All persons fishing, ages 17 and older are required to have a valid Texas Saltwater Fishing License. You can easily purchase a fishing license online by going to Texas Parks and Wildlife website and Fishing License

Currently, there are no mask mandates or capacity limitations in place. You are welcome to wear a mask, but they are not required. We do make a practice of sanitizing the boat between trips, and our Captain and Crew frequently wash their hands.

The morning began with a trip out into the Gulf. After about an hour of rolling seas, about half of the guests, including my grandson, were seasick and throwing up over the side. Since this is advertised as a bay fishing trip, I am not sure why we began in the Gulf, especially considering the conditions. We then moved inside the jetties where conditions were much better. We never actually fished inside the bay proper. Trip ended at 11:30Am, a little early, but I think most folks just wanted to get off the boat.

If the bite is tough inside the bay, which it is at times, our Captains do move just outside the jetties. We are sorry to hear you did get a little seasick. Our Captains do try their best to put guests on the fish.

1st time bay fishing. And it was an awesome experience. I had a great time with my husband. I unfortunately caught nothing but he caught 4 fish. I enjoyed catching the sunset and seeing dolphins.

We had a great time. Our group of 4 caught 14 sand trout. Nobody else on the boat had much luck but the captain and deck hand we great. Fished 2 locations. Would definitely go again.
