Bay Fishing South Padre Island

Overview

The fishing on the bay is great fishing, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Whiting, and many others, including Red Fish. Bay fishing trips primarily target tasty sand trout and whiting but customers will also have opportunities to catch red drum and black drum. Customers can also bring their own gear if they desire, but Captain Murphy’s will not be responsible for it.

All persons fishing, ages 17 and older are required to have a valid Texas Saltwater Fishing License. You can easily purchase a fishing license online by going to Texas Parks and Wildlife website and Fishing License

Currently, there are no mask mandates or capacity limitations in place. You are welcome to wear a mask, but they are not required. We do make a practice of sanitizing the boat between trips, and our Captain and Crew frequently wash their hands.

Nice morning trip. Staff was great. Captain tried several spots to keep us on fish. The deckhands were really nice and good at their job. Helped everyone out on the boat and filleted our fish at the end. Captain also hopped in to help as needed. I believe we had a pretty full boat so there are people close by but not uncomfortably so. We caught a couple of fish each so not a great fishing day but that’s just how it goes sometimes especially in July. Side note: I’d recommend Taking some motion sickness meds beforehand. Overall enjoyed this trip and would try again.

The hotel says it has an "ocean view." Some of the rooms said "partial ocean view", so we chose the ocean view option which is more expensive. Well... it does not say that the hotel is building their "party room" right in front of the beach and it obstructs the view right smack in the middle!! The beach is trashed every night and in the morning there is one small vehicle that picks up an overloaded trash container. People leave broken chairs, trash bags filled with plastic and food containers, cups with straws for mother nature to clean up. There does not seem to be a system at the hotel to pick up in front of the hotel where they have a company that rents out chairs and umbrellas. They just place the chairs on top of the trash. It's an island issue really and they need to have a crew to clean up and during the day and especially in the morning for those who disrespect mother nature. There was even feces both mornings on the beach!! No one seems to care. I tried uploading a pic, but this website doesnt' allow me to do it.

EXCELLENT service and great staff helping in the boat.. definitely an excursion that has to be booked. Saw so many dolphins, lots of hammerhead sharks caught, and fish for everyone to catch!
