Beginner Group Surf Lesson

Overview

Goofy Foot was established in Lahaina, Maui in April, 1994 by the Owner/Instructor Tim Sherer to perpetuate his relationship with Mother Ocean and to teach the ancient Hawaiian sport of surfing. We are dedicated to providing professional surfing lessons to all levels of aspiring students in the spirit of fun and learning. We are committed to facilitating the highest level of experience for our guests with a focus on teaching safety, ocean awareness and surfing fundamentals. Students are guaranteed to standup and ride at least one wave, and even more are given a smart approach to learning to surf that is based on technique and fundamentals that they can use to accelerate learning on their own.

I took my girls for surf lessons with John "Corto" Cortez today at Goofy Foot Surf School. I paid for semi-private lesson with Corto and he was absolutely amazing. I'm from Long Beach and have known Corto for 30 years, but I had no idea how talented he is working with kids/teens. He had them surfing in just a few waves. I'm so happy to have exposed my daughters to the "surfing bug!" The prices was very reasonable, the professional pics (50) were emailed to me within an hour, and we got free GFSS hats! This truly made our Maui vacation even that much more memorable. Thank you John Cortez and GFSS! Aloha!

At the recommendation of close friends, we booked a private 2-hour beginner surf lesson for four (husband, wife, and two kids-12 & 10). We were lucky to get Mikey as our instructor and had an incredible experience. He taught us the basics and took the time to explain how to respect the ocean and the waves. We all got up on our boards the first try and the kids took to it right away. Our kids loved it and can’t wait to surf again now. Also, the pictures that were taken really captured the joy on everyone’s face as they surfed. If you are looking to book a lesson, ask for Mikey and prepare yourself for a special experience.

Amazing experience that will never be forgotten! Not only is this an amazing set up and the instructors are very helpful and prep you well for the water, but each of our group stood up at least once and the photographer took great pics showing that! The only thing that was that some people had many more pictures taken then others... but all round this was an amazing place to learn how to surf! The water was quite shallow making it lesser intimidating for many of us. The waves were rather gentle and the instructors assisted all beginners to the max! I would recommend this to a friend.
