Beneath The Streets Underground History Tour

Overview
Go underground on a 1-hour walking history tour through Seattle's original neighborhood. Our experienced guides lead small groups through, and beneath, Pioneer Square to the street level that existed in the 1890s. Explore underground pathways that were built more than 120 years ago, learning details on early Seattle history, why these spaces were built, and how they have been used (and misused) over the years. Marvel at how this once Indian encampment has since transformed into one of the 20 largest cities in the United States.

Our tour guides participate in workshops on cultural traditions and history with special guest historians and Native Tribal members as continual professional development.

Be very careful, this isn’t the original underground tour properly known. They bring you to two basements with no history. A few of the attendees are their own staff, tipping them at the end, pressuring you to give your own tip too. Lasts less than 1h. The basements they bring you to (2) nothing to do with the original tunnels and old shops etc that the original tour takes you to.

We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience with our tour company. It is true we are a relative newcomer on the scene, but we have been here since 2013. To be clear, we are not a scam, but a highly rated and well respected tour with amazing staff. Our tour does visit 3 underground areas, but with the starting point of the tour in the underground itself, perhaps- to some- visiting two other underground areas does not seem like a fully immersive experience. We like to have our guides tell folks at the beginning of the tour that the underground was never an inter-connected city (and any tour visiting more than one underground space goes outside and then back down) but maybe this was not communicated. Most of the Seattle underground( no matter where you go in the underground) does not have old storefronts or signage, as many building owners have used their respective underground spaces for all sorts of things over the years We are also curious to hear about the attendees who appeared to be staff and pressured folks into tipping, so we can amend that. While we may go on one another’s tours, it is not as a plant or a way of pressuring people into tips. If you email us at [email protected] with the name of your reservation, the date, and time, you attended, we can process a refund for you. Thank you for taking the time to let us know what you thought of the tour

Great tour. Very informative and filled with fun trivia about early Seattle history. Our guide was very friendly, funny, knowledgeable and down to earth. This made me want to come back to Seattle to learn more about the city!
