What To Expect

Kualoa Ranch

Established in 1850, Kualoa is a 4,000-acre (1,619-hectare) working cattle ranch that extends from the rugged mountains down to the ocean. The terrain includes dense rain forest, open valleys and white-sand beaches. Many areas of this natural paradise can be reached only on foot, horseback or all-terrain vehicle. You may even recognize the scenery as Kualoa Ranch has served as a set for Hollywood movies such as Jurassic Park, Pearl Harbor and Godzilla, and TV shows like Hawaii Five-O, Magnum P.I. and Lost.

We have previously been to Kualoa and went on the movie tour (which we enjoyed and I’d recommend) This time we decided we wanted to explore further and booked the two hour ATV tour. It was worth every penny. The six of us had our own guide, Ethan. Ethan was amazing - he made the less confident of us feel safe and secure and we were soon exploring this beautiful ranch along with some great narrative and history from Ethan. He also captured some great shots. It can be hard getting six adults to agree but I felt like this catered to us all - wildlife, scenery, history, movies and splashing around through muddy puddles and streams. The site has a cafe serving breakfast stuff and drinks (we’ve only ever been first thing) and a shop. Thank you Ethan for creating such great memories and we hope to visit Kualoa again soon.

This was our favorite activity/tour we did while in Hawaii!! We were picked up from our hotel and taken directly to their front door. Our guide was helpful telling us where we need to check in and receive our itinerary. We began with a Jeep Excursion (90 min) seeing MANY movie sights and stopping multiple times for photos and history. Then we took an Ocean Voyage (90 min). We returned for a buffet lunch and we finished with our favorite-ATV tour (60 min). We wished the 2 hour tour was available but when we booked, about 1 1/2 months out, they were all booked. So book EARLY! When on the ATV tour, you could see tents in one of the valley areas, where there was active filming going on. ABSOLUTELY a must do!

This is a must see for any movie fan! We were promptly loaded onto a air-conditioned, nice bus from Waikiki and driven about an hour to the other side of the island where we were immediately greeted and our day outlined by welcoming staff. All of us were impressed with the ease and organization of such a complicated outfit with so many language challenges, etc. Tennis shoes and shorts are fine for activities except horseback riding and there are easy to use lockers but we just kept a backpack with us. We did the jungle tour (90 minutes), then the boat cruise (90 minutes), then lunch (30 minutes, filling buffet), and finished with the ATV tour (60 minutes). All of them were fun but most of our 16-50 year old crowd liked the ATV ride the best. We could have easily gone for the two hour ATV ride. We returned back to Waikiki at about 4 pm as there was a fair amount of traffic for our 90 minute return. The views are spectacular and the guides were knowledgeable about Hawaiian culture as well as the movie sets. Hawaii is such an amazing place and Kualoa Ranch is one of it's real gems!
