Lake Crescent
Because of development, very few temperate rainforests outside of Olympic National Park exist along this stretch today. In Olympic, temperatures rarely drop below freezing or go above 80F, enabling an incredibly unique ecosystem to grow. Mosses, ferns, Douglas fir, red alders, Western hemlocks and Sitka spruce thrive in temperate rainforests, as do epiphytes, which are plants growing on other plants. Cat-tail moss and licorice ferns are two types of epiphytes you will find in Olympic. Lake Crescent This deep lake in the heart of Olympic National Park holds water that is a brilliant hue of bright blue. It was formed during the last Ice Age by thousands of years of glacial activity. We took this tour from Seattle and our guide was Michael. We weren't able to see Hurricane Ridge because of park road work but Michael added a stop in Poulsbo as an adjustment. We would really have liked to see Hurricane Ridge but the timing of our trip didn't work with the park road construction. We enjoyed Crescent Lake and the Hoh Rainforest very much. Two beautiful sights! Poulsbo was cute town and we found some cute mementos. We returned on the ferry on Bainbridge Island. It was a very good day. Be prepared for long drives but it's worth it. Michael was a good driver and a knowledgeable guide.

Took this Olympic National park tour from Seattle. First stop is a market/gas station where you can buy lunch for the day. Then on to Hurricane ridge. (2.5 hour total drive to get there) Beautiful drive up the mountain to get there. Once you’re up there, gorgeous views of Hurricane ridge and other areas. You can take a little trail to get other views. An hour and a half was spent here, I’m guessing that long so you have time to eat your lunch. They also have gas station type sandwiches for purchase there, along with snacks. Next was on to Lake Crescent and Hoh Rainforest. (1 hour drive) Absolutely stunning! The lake is crystal clear with aqua colored water in spots and beautiful scenery. Super cool to walk through the Rainforest also. But we only had 45 minutes total there! We feel that more time should have been spent at the Lake/Rainforest, as there is more exploring to do there than at Hurricane ridge. 2 hours to drive back to catch the Bainbridge ferry to Seattle which was a neat thing to do. Michael our guide was great! If you can endure most of your time in the bus/van to get to these places, then it’s worth it! Absolutely gorgeous!
