We booked the nighttime bioluminescence rafting tour for myself, my daughter and her two children, ages 7 and 11. Our launching point was Beacon 42, waaaay out on Cape Canaveral and the Mosquito Lagoon. Be sure to plan enough time to arrive before dark. Also, it's a salt marsh, so be prepared to be assailed by mosquitoes (hence the name of the lagoon), so wear long sleeves and bring insect repellent.
Our guide was a very engaging young man and he made the whole experience easy for us. At first, before the sun had fully set, we were a bit skeptical about the luminescence in the water, but once it was full dark, the water transformed into a magical thing. Paddling , or simply dragging a small net through the water produced a trail of thousands of sparkling gems. Fish jumping, or waves breaking, produced an unexpected light show. We caught a number of comb jellies, one of the creatures that creates the bioluminescence, and were able to hold them, Every touch produces a tiny streak of light and at times illuminates the creature's entire structure. An unforgettable experience for us, and especially for the kids. It was amazing.
Equally amazing, and an unexpected bonus, was the night sky. Out there, away from any light pollution, you can see the heavens in detail like I've only seen a couple of times in my life, and I'm a well-traveled 65 years old. When we went, Mars was closer to Earth than it had been in many years and was quite visible, but for me the real treat was to be able to see the vast spray of stars and galaxies near and far like I have only seen once or twice before. Amazing.
There was only one thing that slightly detracted from the whole experience, and that was when a couple of the guides, and one passenger, started throwing comb jellies at one another from raft to raft. I would hope that the management of this company would instill a greater respect for the wildlife that allows this incredible phenomenon (and their business) to occur. I was getting ready to say something to our guide, but then the silliness stopped. All in all, a very memorable experience and worth every penny of the price.

Thanks for this great review! Your description of the tour is so detailed. We are glad you saw so many wonderful things on your tour. And yes, absolutely, we have already reminded the entire staff that first and foremost we are an eco-tour company, and our mission is to respect nature in all of its forms. Sorry that these guides were not respectful of the comb jellies, we will ensure that it never happens again. But thanks so much for coming with us, and for this great review. - Ram BK, Owner
