For those who follow me, I visit a lot of museums and can be scathing, when required, This museum was awesome! My belief regarding Hawaiian history and the overall experience of many Pacific Island locations was strong - until I visited this wonderfully laid out series of buildings and exhibits. I learned so much...and the sheer number of exhibits can be overwhelming to some, but well worth the price of admission, which is high. I read the negative reviews of the museum before visiting as anyone can be complementary - and found them to be flat wrong! Yes, there is a lot of reading, but it is a museum! Anyway - I strongly recommend most parts of the experience - the Museum itself is amazing...three floors of exquisite antiques and replicas that outline the history and mysticism of the islands and the greater pacific island chains. My only disappointment were the Hawaiian gardens...poorly laid out and not at all comprehensive. I am an avid gardener and found the short walk uninspiring. But, don't let that stop you from visiting this amazing location - and give yourself 2-3 hours or even more to experience all the offerings and take time to read....the sun will still be out and ready to burn you at the beach and pool! Enjoy...one of the best cultural museums I have visited - and I have visited many around the world. Yes, it is that good.

First I want to say, this is a review I forgot to do several years ago. My daughter and I went there and really enjoyed it. There are a lot of artifacts showing art and crafts of the Hawaiian people. Displays showing why things were done as they were done, along with some geological information, and not just about volcanoes. If you are in Honolulu and looking to learn something about the Polynesian cultures this is a great place to do it.

This place is huge with so much to see and enjoy! Give yourself a lot of time you don't want to rush though the 4-levels. The price to get is well worth it.
