We stopped here during our stay in Charleston. This was very interesting. It was very interesting to hear about the slave lifestyle and see their living quarters. It’s good to see that the owners of this plantation have decided open the place so history can be revealed.

From the get-go we were told not to miss the Gulah show outside one of the slave cabins. We did this first and it was the highlight of the tour! The woman giving the history, storytelling and singing was lovely, knowledgeable and had a beautiful speaking and singing voice. This part of the visit gets an enthusiastic 5 stars. The slave cabins were both informative and sad and are a testament to the strength of the people’s forced to live in them - they also get 5 stars and are also worth the price of admission. The house tour gets about 2 stars, maybe. We didn’t get to see too much and the parts of the house we saw were not Plantation era. Much of the house had been rebuilt in the 1930’s which we didn’t know. The gardens and the rest of the grounds and out buildings were lovely and the tractor tour was fun and our guide was informative and funny! They collectively get 4 stars. The oak lined drive was really beautiful, too. Amazing how old, strong and beautiful those trees are. Worth the trip and the tour cost for the Gullah history teller alone, just don’t expect much from the house.

We took the Boone Hall Plantation Tour with our guide, Alan. He was entertaining to say the least and knowledgeable about the area and plantation. Enjoyed learning the history along the road to Boone Hall. Once there you are basically on your own and I suggest going right to the history presentation on the Gullah people. Wonderful stories and songs. Then take your time visiting the slave houses and up to the main house. I was disappointed to find out that the tour is only on the first level as I'm sure there much to see. The guide was great to listen to but the area is limited. If you have the time walk around the grounds which are massive but beautiful. As a side note, Alan was very helpful in suggesting places to eat nearby and also offered to drop us off at our hotel.
