I took this tour as while in port on a cruise. We 3 people caught a taxi 10.00 total from the port to the trolley starting point.
This trolley tour was the perfect way to see Boston and hear narratives about its history. I did the hop on hop off therefore I ended up with two different drivers with different narrative styles. Both drivers were very informative and pointed out different historical information on the same route. I really enjoyed the ride on the trolley.

The bus takes you to all the high points of boston. We took the entire route they jumped on the boston harbor cruise. We then came back bussed to a central location location and walked to paul revere's house and the old north church. There is a lot to see and its easy to follow the freedom trail. The tour guide/drivers were very knowledgable about the city. It takes about an hour to make the loop. The harbor cruise is nice, you can get off in the navy yard and catch another boat back.

I took this tour with my mother, sister, and brother. (My siblings are both in their 20s.) We took advantage of the hop-on, hop-off option, and as a result, we had three different tour guides. All three were excellent. Though they did have a "script" to follow, each guide threw in little details that were not on the other tours, incorporating their own experiences and areas of expertise, so we learned something new each time. They would recommend locations, museums, and historical tours that were not associated with CityView for us to check out later. They also interacted with us, answering questions and cracking jokes. It is true that some of the hop-off locations are rather inconveniently located. Some locations require you to run across the road to get to where you are going. Taking advantage of the map the company distributes would be immensely helpful. (We didn't actually pick up a map, but doing so would be a good idea.) We opted to ride through the entire tour once to "get our bearings" before actually hopping off at any location. The ticket we purchased included a cruise around Boston Harbor. It was excellent, and we got tons of lovely photographs. The cruise also had a tour guide who told us about the history of Boston and of Boston Harbor. (Some of this information overlapped with what the bus drivers had told us; some did not.) The only downside to CityView Trolley Tours that I can think of are some of the drop-off locations. However, even with this in mind, I would recommend the tour.
