Gaslamp Quarter
Often called the Historic Heart of San Diego, the Gaslamp Quarter is the main dining and entertainment district of the city. With more than 150 bars and restaurants and 94 registered historic buildings, this nightlife playground has a lot to see and do, as well as a fascinating past. The Brothels, Bites and Booze tour will introduce you to the beginnings of San Diego as a port town – learn why it became one of the more notorious red light districts of its time, and find out how this once-undesired neighborhood became a fun and vibrant nightlife destination for both locals and visitors. After meeting your guide, you’ll embark on a journey of scandalous tales, unique cocktails and local cuisine. On the tour, you’ll make new friends, hear interesting stories, sing karaoke and explore new tastes at local restaurants*.

Our tour guide was fun and excited to show us around and seemed very knowledgable. Gives you a new view of the city with cool information you would not have guessed about some of the older buildings. This may not replace an entire dinner depending on how much you eat, but 3 food samples and some ice cream was what I was expecting from reading about this. Food was good, drinks were good and the places visited were very cool and unique. Would definitely do something like this again.

The food was good. The tour itself was not. The guide was young and soft spoken and didn't seem very experienced. I couldn't hear anything he said. I didn't even catch his name. We wound up leaving the tour early before the last stop. I think the tour itself would have been good if the guide was more energetic, engaging, informative, or we could even hear a word he said. We also thought we would actually get to visit an old brothel, not just point at the building from across the street.

Thank you for joining us. I'm sorry you didn't jive with our guide. We supply our guides with thorough scripts and an extensive training. Sometimes their personalities are not the over-theatrical types, but the content that they share should be insightful, and all guides genuinely love meeting new people. In regards to not being able to hear him, we will make sure to have the guides make sure that everyone can hear, and this can be done by asking the group if they can hear, bringing the group closer, and avoiding parts of the Gaslamp that tend to be louder. We also offer headsets for the guides, so we will suggest he use one. I'm not sure how the idea of visiting an old brothel came to be, since there haven't been any brothels since the 1980s in the Gaslamp Quarter, and most of the buildings have been revitalized to house offices.

This was a great experience. I have Celiac disease and I was not expecting my dietary restrictions to be accommodated but they were. My guide, Cody was very knowledgeable. I saw other reviews which commented that there was not enough food, however for me, this was enough to fill me up for dinner.
