What To Expect

Gaslamp Quarter

Often called the Historic Heart of San Diego, the Gaslamp Quarter is the main dining and entertainment district of the city. With more than 150 bars and restaurants and 94 registered historic buildings, this nightlife playground has a lot to see and do, as well as a fascinating past. The Brothels, Bites and Booze tour will introduce you to the beginnings of San Diego as a port town – learn why it became one of the more notorious red light districts of its time, and find out how this once-undesired neighborhood became a fun and vibrant nightlife destination for both locals and visitors. After meeting your guide, you’ll embark on a journey of scandalous tales, unique cocktails and local cuisine. On the tour, you’ll make new friends, hear interesting stories, sing karaoke and explore new tastes at local restaurants*.

I have done similar tours in other cities. I think the concept is awesome but unfortunately the tour guide can make all the difference and we did not have a particularly good guide. Additionally, the restaurants didn’t really seem to be expecting us, or treat us like anything special as they have been other cities. Lastly, two of the restaurants basically serve the same exact meal to us, which was kind of a disappointment.

We are so bummed to hear that you did not enjoy the tour. We will follow-up with our restaurant partners to see why they did not appear to be expecting you as we confirm all of our stops ahead of time. Normally the food stops on this particular tour route get great reviews - the first stop is a for a breakfast enchilada with pinto bean sauce and a bloody mary, the second stop is a greek gyro "quesadilla" and sangria, the third stop is California fries & a margarita and the last stop is for guest choice of ice cream served in a cookie sandwich, cup or cone. We appreciate the feedback and will work with our guide and restaurants to make sure we are providing the best guest experience on future tours.

What a great way to learn a bit more about a small piece of this beautiful city’s history. Good food, great drinks and a fabulous tour guide made for a very enjoyable evening in the Gaslamp quarter.
