Sunset Cultural Center
This is the meeting place for Carmel Food Tours. Look for the tall, Gothic-style arch and huge windows. It looks a little like a church, but it's not. When you descend into the courtyard, which is located EXACTLY at the intersection of 9th & San Carlos, you'll be greeted by your tour guide.

Everything about the Carmel Food Tour earns a 5-star rating. I recently booked a private food and wine tour for 6 friends celebrating a special birthday. My experience with booking was professional and easy to accomplish. On the day of the tour, our tour guide, Tracy, met us promptly and immediately began her excellent introduction and execution of our tour. We all enjoyed Tracy and she soon felt like one of our friends. Her knowledge of Carmel architecture, hidden courtyards and artwork enhanced the food and wine part of the tour, which was also excellent! The food and wine pairings were carefully selected so that we were excited to taste at each restaurant we visited but never felt like it was too much. The personal touch of restaurant managers and/or chefs talking with us and answering our questions was another bonus. In addition to restaurants, we visited a honey shop where we listened to an informative talk on bees and honey as we enjoyed a honey/food pairing in a private room. The finale was a chocolate shop with sampling! Don’t miss this tour!!

This tour is fantastic. I’ve done other walking food/drink tours but this is the best. Each of the 7 places we visited were a perfect mix of food in generous portions. We went from a tasting plate of calamari, onion tart with a mushroom soup “shot”, to home made pasta, local honey (run by an incredible 16 year old CEO!!), tacos (with a lovely margarita!) , an olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting on ice cream, a (full size) baked cheesecake at a wonderful Italian cafe, finally ending with chocolate caramels at a local chocolatier. My 7 year old son came with me and we were very nicely accommodated for. I was surprised he enjoyed a lot of the food so don’t be afraid to bring kids with curious or adventurous taste buds. Our tour guide Amber was a local who knew the little streets of Carmel so this was also a fab way to get to know the town. We will definitely be back here on our last day to spend more time at the little boutiques, cafes and restaurants.

Amber was excellent. She was well informed and provided insights into the city, the architecture and places of interest. The Bakery was the highlight!!
