My wife and I really enjoyed our time on board the Carrie B. A few years back we decided to take a cruise on the New River on anohter boat and were very disapponted. The Carrie B was awesome and we would recommend it to anyone wanting to see the sights on the New River.

Before we left on vacation I asked the Fort Lauderdale forum for some day trip ideas. The local expert sugested the Carrie B. It sounded like something we would like to do. I thought it odd when the captin of the Carrie B sugested his own boat. But he stated that January 10th would be the day we should come. So we had the 10th open and we went. I am glad we did. I printed off the directions off their web site. I wish it had milage on it, it was much farther from I-595 than I thought it would be. We arrived early. We found the crew very helpful. We were told it would be 20 minutes before they start boarding. A crew member sugested a Starbucks around the corner. We went back to the boat and boarded. We did have to wait 10 minutes for a tour bus to arrive before we left. We found out very quickly the captain knew who owned every house along the way. My wife loved this part of the cruise, looking at all of the houses. As we went by the Ft. Lauderdale Yacht Club, they were having a regata with the 1988 America's Cup winner Stars and Strips. The yachts were sailing along with us out into Port Everglades with us. In the port, tied up bow to bow, was the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Elizabeth 2. They were both leaving that evening to start their around the world cruises. All along the trip we found the captain very knowable on what we were seeing and willing to answer questions. We were glade we went on this cruise and would recomend it.

Most travelers & visitors would not know how to get to the listed address. As of this date, the Carrie B leaves the dock toward the end of Riverwalk behind the Cheesecake Factory and Stranahan House off LAs Olas Blvd. There is a parking garage, or if you feel like walking around Las Olas, there are outdoor lots (with meters) behind the stores and shops on both sides of the Blvd. The staff (I mean crew) are very helpful and friendly. The Carrie B is a large, clean and roomy craft. There are seats on the top level, outside, in the fresh air & sunshine. (Keep those dermatoligists employed...or bring a hat). If you're with grandpa, the lower level is pretty much inline with the boarding ramp. and is a fully enclosed A/C cabin with all needed facilities. Not many steps. They have snacks & drinks. Cruise from lower parts of the New River, into the ICW, and then to Port Everglades, past the cut (old lake Mabel). They tell about some of the ships in port, espically if military. We often go on the cruise just for the ride. It is very enjoyable, and we learn something new almost every time. When in Norfolk, we also cruise there with the Carrie B. It is currently seasonal in Ft Laud. But the Capt reported to the TA volunteers that they may try to run it all year around. CHECK FIRST. They offer many deals. Since you took the time to read, I will tell you that there is one free with one coupons (currently) in the Entertainment Book (for Broward, Palm Beach & Martin Cty editions). Also on Fridays in the Sun Sentinal, there should be a coupon....and also on their website, listed above. Bring a hat & camera.
