What To Expect
1
City Park
City Park is as magical and unique as the city of New Orleans. The 1,300-acre outdoor oasis has enchanted New Orleanians since 1854, making it one of the nation’s oldest urban parks. Each year, millions of visitors stroll under the same historic oaks and picturesque moss canopies that served as the backdrop for dances, concerts and even gentlemanly duels or “affaires d’honneur” for generations.
2
Hurricane Katrina Memorial
On the former site of Charity Hospital’s paupers’ field, this ominous but oddly affecting circle of tombs holds the bodies of 85 unclaimed victims of the 2005 levee failures and the names of others who perished. It’s an unfussy place that’s easily missed, the better for contemplative solitude, perhaps. Surrounded by a storm-shaped series of pathways, the memorial does its duty in giving one substantial pause.

Way better than expected!! Kendall (hope I spelled that right) made the tour. His personal experience with Hurricane Katrina & how he has come back from it since then was truly inspirational. Also, he took us through a bit of ghosthunting at the Memorial that I wasn't expecting & was very cool! Also, there were a couple of unruly folks on the 8:00pm tour (10/17/21) that raised some issues & stuck him in the middle of it (it is a drinking tour but I really wish people could behave somewhat like adults,) but Kendall dealt with this as best as could be expected & kept the peace. This really had nothing to do with the tour experience for us though! We learned a lot about the cemeteries that I had no idea about, the burial customs of New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina, etc. and even our two 11 year old's stayed interested!

Kendall was a great tour guide. He was funny and very informative. The history of burial practices in NOLA was very well explained. If you are able to take the tour, ask for Kendall.

Knowledgeable guide with a personal history and interest in the area. Fun and relaxing way to learn more about an already interesting topic. (It is a BYOB tour, so, these guides really deserve a big tip for their humor and patience 😉)
