Charleston Ghost & Graveyard Tour
Meet your guide at a central meeting point, then proceed to the graveyard where you will hear about Charleston's spirits and gruesome tales such as: • The ghost of Sue Howard, a grieving mother who prays at the grave of her dead child from the spirit world. Your guide has the picture to prove it. • The Great Nullifier, famous rebel warrior John C. Calhoun. Find out why he and his wife still dance in the street every year, for over 150 years running. • Tales of being buried alive. Doctors in old Charleston didn't take chances with contagious diseases. Fall unconscious in a hospital, wake up in a grave.Learn why the terms saved by the bell and graveyard shift were coined. You will be glad you weren't around when they were. While other walking tours are looking in through the iron fence, you'll be on the inside. Learn the history of Charleston's haunted graveyards and hear tales about famous individuals who found their final resting place in the Holy City. Don't forget your flash cameras. We like to try to do the haunted tours when we visit a new town because we like the history and like to get out and walk around and see highlights we might not normally have seen. We know it's a toss-up as to whether we get a GREAT guide or a not so great guide. While our guide for the Charleston tour was knowledgeable of the history, she was a little over the top in her story telling...almost like she was hosting story time for a pre-school class. At first, it was fine but it became a distraction after a while. The tour is well priced and the walk was easy. The history was interesting.

This tour is a fun thing to do in Charleston. Our guide was Brandy and she had many tales to tell. Some were a bit long. I had 2 ghost experiences while in the graveyard. One was something poking at my ankle like pushing on my pant leg The second was I was filming and it was pitch black but there was a light shining on a tombstone and I could see the head and torso of a man but when I wasn't filming there was no light or man. I also saw shadows of a man and several children around a tomb watching us and I saw a shadow running by a window outside the church. It was creepy! We went back the next day to get good pics.

This is a very basic tour. Our guide walked us around several blocks for one hour and told 3 stories. The last 30 min of the tour he headed the group to the graveyard. We left, thought it would be more of the same.

We're sorry you missed the last 30 minutes of the tour, but completely understand. We're following up with your guide to explore what went wrong and provide additional training. Feel free to contact Randy Johnson, our Guide Manager, at [email protected], to discuss ways we can make this right. Many thanks for the feedback.
