Charleston Ghost & Graveyard Tour
Meet your guide at a central meeting point, then proceed to the graveyard where you will hear about Charleston's spirits and gruesome tales such as: • The ghost of Sue Howard, a grieving mother who prays at the grave of her dead child from the spirit world. Your guide has the picture to prove it. • The Great Nullifier, famous rebel warrior John C. Calhoun. Find out why he and his wife still dance in the street every year, for over 150 years running. • Tales of being buried alive. Doctors in old Charleston didn't take chances with contagious diseases. Fall unconscious in a hospital, wake up in a grave.Learn why the terms saved by the bell and graveyard shift were coined. You will be glad you weren't around when they were. While other walking tours are looking in through the iron fence, you'll be on the inside. Learn the history of Charleston's haunted graveyards and hear tales about famous individuals who found their final resting place in the Holy City. Don't forget your flash cameras. You never know what phantom images you can capture...

The guide had great stories and interesting facts. My husband being a History buff did find some of his facts incorrect. At the St. Phillip's Church he states that Mrs. Calhoun is buried in the graveyard and, Mr. Calhoun was buried in the cemetery across the street. In fact, Mrs. Calhoun is buried at St. Paul's Episcopal Church graveyard in Pendleton SC. not in Charleston.

Oops! Your husband is absolutely right. There is a widespread urban legend here in the city that Mrs. Floride Calhoun is buried in the graveyard next to St. Philip's Church. We have corrected your guide on this important historical point and we thank you for bringing it to our attention. As noted, Mrs. Calhoun died in 1866 and was buried at St. Paul's in Pendleton. Here's another interesting fact. For the next 23 years after her death, a burial plot next to Floride remained vacant for her husband. Thomas Clemson, Mr. Calhoun's son-in-law, tried to have his body exhumed and transported from Charleston to the Upstate to be buried next to his beloved wife, but his attempts were unsuccessful.

I actually took two tours in one day (a Saturday) and both were guided by Bruce Orr. I took the morning Old Jail History Tour and the 7:30pm Ghost and Graveyard Tour. The Jail tour was fantastic and Bruce was very knowledgeable about the site having worked there while it was still operational. It was a very small group and the information given and the stories told were very informative and entertaining. I would love to go back and take the night tour of that vacation. The Graveyard tour was a lot of fun but a much larger group unfortunately. Bruce handled the numbers very well (was even great with the two kids on the tour) and again gave an informative and fun tour. This tour company has great reviews for a reason. I've taken many ghost tours all over the country and these were among the best. Not cheesy or over-the-top. Just relation of local lore and also information about what is verified and what isn't. Satisfies those of us that love to hear the stories but also want to know what the facts are. Would definitely recommend!

The tour was Ok. The back stories from the tour guide were very good. Charleston has so much history I think our tour guide could have squeezed in a few more stories during our tour.
