Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon

Stop by The Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, one of the most haunted buildings in Charleston. Since the late 1600s, the Exchange and Dungeon have existed in one form or another. Once a walled prison, it has been a haven for those seeking freedom as well as a dark and gruesome spot for prisoners caught on the wrong side of authority.

We had a good experience on the Ghosts of Liberty Tour. Family friendly with stories of the macabre and a brief history of the city thrown in. No complaints. Our guide, Michael, did a great job on his story telling and interacted with the smaller children on the tour pretty well. Michael had their attention through out.

Nice tour with good history, but a bit too mild for our group. My 8 and 10 year old kids could’ve used a few stories that were more spooky and not just a history of what happened in each spot. Knowledgeable staff, but very little on the ghostly side of things, which is what we were hoping for.

Unfortunately, in order to make our content suitable for younger audiences, we have to water down a lot of the spooky details of history. We completely understand that our all-ages tours can be less exciting for individuals eager to hear the darker and more gruesome history. We appreciate this feedback, and we will use this for future improvements. If you would like, we would love to have you experience our adults-only tour so you can enjoy the more exciting and descriptive paranormal history.

This was a good tour. Plenty of wait time for pictures. Content was appropriate. Would’ve enjoyed hearing more history of Charleston as we walked to our next story stop. Hard to hear at times due to the multiple tours going on at the same time. Overall, very well done and would recommend for families with young kids.
