Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon

Stop by The Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, one of the most haunted buildings in Charleston. Since the late 1600s, the Exchange and Dungeon have existed in one form or another. Once a walled prison, it has been a haven for those seeking freedom as well as a dark and gruesome spot for prisoners caught on the wrong side of authority.

This was our family’s first ghost tour. The guide was fine. The tour was underwhelming. Not sure that we would do any ghost tour again in the future.

We did the Ghosts of Liberty tour on April 1, and the joke was on us. While the guide was friendly enough, he was not prepared to give tours. For this I blame the company, not the guide. It was only the second tour he has given, and he was obviously thrown to the wolves in the interest of making money. He was not well trained, and the tour wound up being a huge waste of time and money. I have been on all kinds of city tours, all around the world, and this was BY FAR the worst one. Usually guides have good knowledge of material, ease of working with people, and considerable local knowledge. This tour, it was just the opposite. The company also sent out a survey monkey link the morning after to tour for feedback, but the link was dead, just like the tour. I will remember this companies name and make sure to never book with them again in any city they do business. They obviously don’t care about anything but turning a quick buck.
