Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon
Stop by The Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, one of the most haunted buildings in Charleston. Since the late 1600s, the Exchange and Dungeon have existed in one form or another. Once a walled prison, it has been a haven for those seeking freedom as well as a dark and gruesome spot for prisoners caught on the wrong side of authority.

Thought it was a great walk-through of the history with the city at night and the story telling by Mike W coincided well with the thunderstorm we got that night. He did a great job and made the tour fun, time flew by so fast!

We signed up for the Death and Depravity Tour at 10 p.m. We thought it would be a great tour but were sorely disappointed. Our guide was NOT Don. All the reviews talk about how great Don is and we were hoping to get in his group. We got the other guy and he was very dry. He knew the history but it sounded more like a rehash of the carriage tour we had been on earlier in the day.Nothing much new or scary. We saw other groups in the graveyards/cemeteries but we never visited one. He kept pausing to Vape which we thought was unprofessional. He also snuck some politics in and it came across very clearly that he doesn't think much of "Southern Society". On top of that he continued to drill into us that he would get in lots of trouble and pay big fines if we broke any of the rules he has to follow. I do understand that we needed to be informed at the beginning but he kept harping on it. Our group was not rowdy and was following the rules. Hush already. We really didn't hear or see anything that lived up to the $30 price tag. We did not tip! 20 people at $30 is $600 for an hour and a half of work that was mediocre at best. The cheaper carriage tour we took earlier was better! I would not recommend this tour based on the bang for the buck.

We did the adults only death and depravity tour the last day of July, It was a full moon and although a little damp, a great night for a ghost tour. Our guide, Don is a loooong time Charleston native and did a fantastic job of mixing the spooky with the vulgar history of Charleston. Great story telling. I would recommend doing this tour early in your visit. You'll get tons of good tips about the city.
