Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon

Stop by The Old Exchange & Provost Dungeon, one of the most haunted buildings in Charleston. Since the late 1600s, the Exchange and Dungeon have existed in one form or another. Once a walled prison, it has been a haven for those seeking freedom as well as a dark and gruesome spot for prisoners caught on the wrong side of authority.

Not a lot to say honestly. I found the tour to be pretty uninteresting from a "ghost tour" standpoint. Would have probably been better if we could have actually gone into ANY of the spots and the Ghosts of Liberty tour is probably more interesting. There was some good historical information given, but some of the ghost stories seemed a little far fetched. Honestly, any of these tours is made or broken by the tour guide. Ours was simply not a good story teller and found myself bored and waiting for it end almost from the time we started.

My friends and I choose the adult only late evening tour and were disappointed... I can’t remember the ladies name who led the tour but unfortunately she can’t tell a story. She was very easily distracted forgetting what she was saying if anyone else walked anywhere near our group... while we were on city streets... on a weekend... so of course there will be people to distract her. Too often I found myself yawning or trying to fill in the blanks when it looked like she couldn’t remember what to say next. While in Charleston we tried three different tours and this was the only one I wish I hadn’t spent money on.

Great tour with Don! He is really engaging and got everyone involved. Showers som amazing and spooky pictures. Told amazing tales as a Charleston native. Incredible stories and town knowledge. Lots of walking to wear comfy shoes!
