Charleston: Off The Beaten Path

Overview
Peace and quiet is what makes this tour special. We walk the streets in a less traveled part of the historic district passing beautiful gardens, stately homes, and visit the inside of two breathtaking churches. This is a part of the city missed by the average guest, and one that you surely wouldn't want to miss yourself.

What To Expect
1
St. Michael's Church
During the week we go into the church which has been standing longer than any other house of worship in the city, 1761. See three Tiffany stained glass windows, and the famous pew 43.
2
Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist
This is like walking into Europe. Without a doubt this is the most beautiful interior in the city.
3
Battery & White Point Gardens
Once an oyster bed known as White Point, this area was developed on landfill specifically for a park. It served as a battery of cannons during the Civil War and was also the site of the execution of Steve Bonnet, the Gentleman Pirate.

It was a fabulous tour with the most knowledgeable tour guide, Evan. So very interesting! When you want more than just facts from your history book. Will take another tour with him next time we are in town.

Evans was such a great tour guide that I convinced myself to sign up on TripAdvisor to leave a review. Knowledgeable, patient, and enthusiastic are just a few words to describe this awesome tour guide. I learned so much about Charleston while taking a wonderfully paced stroll around town. If you're considering doing a walking tour in Charleston, I highly recommend this one with Evans during the 5:30PM time frame (less sun, nice wind)!

If you thought you knew all of Charleston, you were probably wrong and this is most assuredly the tour you should take. Evans is a bonafide local with a long family history in the low country and amazing stories to tell and sites to show you, from the historic to the modern tidbits this tour doesn’t disappoint. Put it on your must do list if you enjoy history.
