Charleston: Off The Beaten Path

Overview
Peace and quiet is what makes this tour special. We walk the streets in a less traveled part of the historic district passing beautiful gardens, stately homes, and visit the inside of two breathtaking churches. This is a part of the city missed by the average guest, and one that you surely wouldn't want to miss yourself.

What To Expect
1
St. Michael's Church
During the week we go into the church which has been standing longer than any other house of worship in the city, 1761. See three Tiffany stained glass windows, and the famous pew 43.
2
Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist
This is like walking into Europe. Without a doubt this is the most beautiful interior in the city.
3
Battery & White Point Gardens
Once an oyster bed known as White Point, this area was developed on landfill specifically for a park. It served as a battery of cannons during the Civil War and was also the site of the execution of Steve Bonnet, the Gentleman Pirate.

Evans was great, very lively and passionate about the great city of Charleston. Especially enjoyed the stories about abolitionists and matriarchs in Charleston’s history. Highly recommend.

We took the Hidden Gems tour with Evans, hoping to see and hear some of Charleston's history that is off the beaten path. This tour did not disappoint! As we walked through the streets of Charleston Evans, a many generational resident, knew everyone from the ladies selling sweetgrass baskets to the postal worker delivering mail. Evans not only told us the history of the buildings we were looking at he also told us about the people and their stories, both past and present. It was obvious that he loves Charleston and continues to research her history. Several times one of us asked a question about a building that we were passing and Evans knew the story behind that home. The tour was not just a memorized script but a man passionate about the city that he loves wanting to share that with visitors. I would highly recommend that you take a tour with Evans!!

I am glad you enjoyed the tour. I'm happy that I was able to show you around my home and introduce you to all the folks that make this city what it is.

An absolutely delightful experience. An off ā€œthe beaten pathā€ tour of homes and neighborhoods. Relaxed walking with loads of intimate details and obscure facts. Evans was enthusiastic and patient. He was in total command of the present and past. His recall for details and amusing anecdotes was unbelievable. We were fortunate to just be a party of four, our own private audience.
