Charleston Stand-Up Paddleboard Eco Tour

Overview
This 2-hour introductory paddle on the Edge of America will get you into the basics of SUP, all in the calm flatwater of the Folly River. All safaris begin with "ground school" or SUP instructions with your Lifeguard Certified Instructors. We'll explore alongside the numerous beautiful native birds and bottlenose dolphins. We'll go with the flow, following the tides and wind direction for a great beginning paddle. At low tide we visit a private beach and go for a swim!

Group photo is taken at the end of the tour, which will be posted on our social media pages.

Guides were great, wish there was more information given on local plants/animals as we paddled but overall a fun experience and very laid back

After reading all of the great reviews and the what to expect info, my nieces and I were really excited about our morning dolphin Sup tour. The only positive things I have to say are that the guides are knowledgeable about paddle boarding techniques and helpful to beginners. Our tour started at 9 and while the info said a 15 minute land instruction part, we didn’t hit the water until 9:46 because I looked at my watch. Part of that was because we had such a large group with 15 people including kids. As we started paddling out, the second guide stayed behind to help out the kids and those having trouble while the other guide and owner led the rest of us. We were told we were going to stop at this unfinished boat ramp, drink some water, and let the others catch up and we could get in the water and cool off if we needed to. First we were waiting for 5 minutes and then another minute but by the time they caught up to us we had actually drifted backwards a good ways from the dock. So, we were told we were going to go back to the dock and then we would go to another area that was better for seeing dolphins. We ended up going back to the dock only to be told that we were done and to head back to the boat ramp. I asked the assistant about us not doing more like going to the sandbar that’s mentioned in the description and he just kept saying that with such a large group and us having to wait for people to catch up that was it. So basically, I spent half of my time waiting around. And, we were back on land at 11:00. When I told the girl working the register at checkout I was disappointed, the owner, Jon, came over and asked me why because he never had a bad review. I said we didn’t actually do what it said in the description and we spent most of our time waiting around. He said that with a big group we had to wait on the slower ones and I could’ve paddled ahead some if I had wanted. He gave a bunch of excuses about the number of people, several lacking experience, it being hot... He said they could give me a partial refund if I wanted. I just said that we were on vacation and it’s just sad that all we did was basically go down and back for that price. He tried to tell me I could’ve just rented boards and then done what I wanted. Well, seeing how I’m not from the area, it’s open water with boats, and I had my two nieces with me that’s why I took a tour. The owner even approached me and my nieces in the parking lot and basically tried to blame them saying that he took care of them by telling them to jump in when they looked hot. Well, let’s just say that occurred while we were waiting for the boat launch to be cleared and our tour was basically done and we never went swimming at the sandbar or they probably would’ve already been cooled off. Lastly, they emailed me saying that I got a whopping $20 refund and again stated that I should just rent from them in the future. We paid 49 plus tax for three adults so in my book since it was pretty much a waste of half a vacation day that doesn’t seem quite right and if he would’ve just owned up to the issues they had that would’ve even been okay but don’t blame things on everything else. Don’t overbook your tours and split the groups up based on ability.

My fiance and I did the 2hr Tour Guided Standup Paddleboarding with Hayley and Joe as our guides. This was both of our first time paddleboarding and a bucket list item for myself. They were awesome guides and made our experience that much better. I couldn't say more about the whole experience in general, securing a booking, informational instruction prior to getting on water to the actual tour itself. We had a great time and we got to have dolphins swimming right next to us. I'd highly recommend SUP Safari's all day. 😃
