This was a cool trip. Enjoyed the hot springs, probably it will be better on winter. The Ice Museum was really nice, first time in a place like that, so I enjoyed very much.

Took the night tour to Chen’s Hot Springs. Unfortunately no Northern Lights that night. Our group decided to leave early and our tour guide (Billl Ambrose) said he would stop on the way back to see if they were visible at other locations. Before we could leave it started to rain and snow. It was decided that we should caravan out - a competing van first, two young women in their rental car next, followed by our van. It was clear that the tour guides were concerned but Bill reassured us we would be fine. The roads were icy and Bill spotted a car that went into a ditch. We stopped and he provided assistance and got the couple (who seemed in shock) into the van. The caravan ahead stopped when they saw us stopping and it was decided that we would transfer the couple to the other van (as they only had 2 passengers and we had 7). We did the transfer at the first pullout and both tour guides installed chains on the vans. The girls in their rental car were convinced to leave the car at the pulllout and get in the other van. We proceeded on a harrowing 4 hour drive back -stopping several times to check the chains and making sure everyone was okay. As we got closer to Fairbanks a tree branch fell on the van. Bill was amazing - reassuring everyone and staying calm. This was in great contrast to the other van operator who was swearing up a storm and repeatedly saying we were all going to die on the road tonight. Please note that this storm was not forecast - if it had been Bill had told us the trip would have been canceled. Bill kept his all calm telling us stories about his life in Alaska - distracting everyone and ensuring that no one freaked out. The couple whose car had crashed may not have made it out if he had not stopped as the snow got pretty heavy on our way back to town. Bill was truly a hero. In summary - it wasn’t the trip we planned but it was definitely an adventure! It was also an important reminder to choose a tour company who hires experienced staff who know what to do when things don’t go as planned.

This tour is a must do! We went a day early before our cruise tour began and booked this on our own. Beautiful 60 mile ride from Fairbanks. Saw wild life and our tour guide was terrific. The hot springs and ice museum were amazing! Had a great lunch in the cozy cabin. So glad we did this!
