Joining Discover Richmond Tours means exploring Church Hill in a unique way. You will sample delicious food and snacks from up to 5 different restaurants, cafes, and bakeries, possibly including wood-fired pastries, classic Richmond comfort food, authentic Ethiopian Fare, and more! You’ll learn about the birthplace of Richmond and it’s heroes, and hear how our partner merchants got their start. But most of all, we’ll make sure you have fun doing it.

Be sure to bring water and comfortable shoes – we’ll be standing at most of our stops, and we’ll be in and out too quickly for water and other beverages to be served.

My daughter and I enjoyed tasting our way around Church Hill, adding a bright note to the last weekend of Christmas break. Our tour guide, Lindsay, was friendly, fun and very knowledgeable about the foods we sampled, the restaurantuers, and the history of Richmond’s oldest neighborhood. She provided just enough historical facts, dosed with attention-grabbing, entertaining anecdotes. The food was all really good, especially liked the Nile (for its unique international flavor), Sub Rosa (one of only 10 wood fired bakeries in the US), Proper Pie (with New Zealand style handpiies) and Liberty (sweet potato chili over grits with pan grilled cornbread was amazing). The WPA Bakery visit Athens the end of the tour was disappointing and would suggest they provide something more interesting than funfetti mini cupcakes for a sample. The canelli sample was more interesting, but seemed soggy and chewy. We tossed both in the trash. My daughter said they actually have good baked goods. But they apparently didn’t want to provide better samples. Overall, it was a fun afternoon, and we are looking forward to going on the new Scott’s Addition tour this spring.

The quality, quantity and variety in the tastings was outstanding! We brought food home with us, we couldn't eat it all! All of the restaurant proprietors were gracious and accommodating. The tour guide was engaging, interactive, interesting, knowledgeable and accommodating. The tour itself was interesting and fast filled. I recommend this tour highly!

My wife and I really enjoyed the Church Hill food tour. It was a great way to see this part of RVA and get familiar with the food scene in this part of town. Lindsey was our guide. She was very knowledgeable and approachable. She also told us quite a bit about the history of the area. You will get plenty of great food on this tour! I highly recommend it.
