This was our first (and last) time in NYC - not because of this attraction. We took the sunset cruise in late July. As we all know, the sun sets later during the summer months. The "premium" seating is sectioned off inside the cabin and is padded. So if you want to sit outside, don't spend the extra money for the premium seating - you DO get first choice of seating anywhere, though, and there were only about 20 people that paid for that (I believe the boat sits about 150). The 2-hour sunset cruise starts at 7pm and the sun set time for that day was 8:15. So what we actually got was a day/twilight/sunset cruise which was totally cool. The cruise starts on the west side of the island and goes around to the east side, under 3 bridges, and comes back (there is a map online of the route). We got to see everything in the daylight and then we got to see it all with the lights twinkling as we were returning. It was quite breezy and a little chilly for me - you may want a light jacket or long sleeve to put on for the trip back when the sun sets. I could have done without the tour commentary for the most part; although some of it was informative, it was mostly cheesy jokes and stories. Other than that, I recommend this enthusiastically.
