This tour was on a mini-bus with 30 passengers. Our guide was Bryan Terrell who did a great job. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He made sure we had all the opportunities to take photos that we needed. At one overlook he took pictures of each guest or couple using our cameras. At one point we saw a black bear wandering alongside the road eating berries. Bryan stopped the bus so that we could get pictures and kept repositioning the bus as the bear moved. The mountains were awesome. The town of Skagway is full of cafes and tourist stores and museums. Nevertheless, it seems like a snapshot from history as it still has wooden sidewalks and old time wooden storefronts.

We took a Skagway City and White Pass Summit coach tour with several other couples - not very crowded, so we all got window seats. The coach (not big enough to be a bus) had really big windows, so view was good. Only problem was low-hanging clouds and rain, so there was no view at the summit. Our driver Tim seemed to know his local history well, was friendly, offered to take the couples' photos together. Since we couldn't see anything at the summit, Tim detoured a bit to an overlook of Skagway in its little valley - which was below the cloud line. We hiked up to Reid Falls and saw the Gold Rush cemetery. It was a short tour, but was relatively inexpensive compared to the train ride (which would have been in the clouds that day too).

We have been thinking whether we should take a bus tour or train tour. I am glad that we have made a right decision. With bus tour, we had more picture opportunities and got to visit more places. And we are lucky to have Bryan as our driver and guide.
