Civil Rights Tour of Nashville

Overview
It is a little-known fact that Nashville was at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement. Students at local historically Black colleges and universities led the way in nonviolent protests in the 1950s and 60s.

Journey with us to attractions and local hideaways around the city that are significant to the Civil Rights Movement on this walking tour.

On this downtown walking tour, you’ll experience the civil rights story and gain renewed activism around race and equality. You’ll learn about the key leaders and events of the movement. This tour reminds us all that the movement is a part of American history, not just African American history.

The Civil Rights Movement Tour was remarkable! This is the best experience in Nashville. Nashville has a lot to offer in terms of country music and entertainment but it was a great opportunity to tap into the city’s diversity by taking this tour. We talked about key civil rights leaders in Nashville such as Congressman John Lewis and the role that black, as well as white people, played. It was a life-changing experience.

The tour guide was well informed, articulate, and helpful in providing insight into the local history relative to Civil Rights events. She was patient with my questions and very friendly. I was most impressed with her commitment to complete the tour. I was the only one that paid, on a rainy day. She showed up and gave the tour on time and with a smile. My experience with these tours can be less reliable. She was reliable with my tour.
