Adventure through Shell Key Preserve in your 100% clear kayak! See crystal-clear water, diverse marine life, and the underwater world below your clear kayak.

You’ll paddle along mangroves, enjoy white sand beaches and sandbars, and explore a secluded beach. If the tide is high, your guide will lead the way through a hidden mangrove tunnel. Shell Key Preserve is located in Tierra Verde, FL near St. Pete Beach in the Tampa Bay area.

Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, manatees, pelicans, crabs, and more while enjoying the preserve’s picturesque mangroves, beaches, and sandbars. Be on the lookout for a manatee or the beautiful pink Roseate Spoonbills in the summer months. White Pelicans call the sandbars of Shell Key Preserve their home during the winter months! Throughout the year, dolphins frolic in the crystal-clear waters and cormorants love to swim alongside your kayak. Chances are that you’ll see a variety of wildlife, but sightings are random and not guaranteed.

What a great experience clear-kayaking at Shell Key! Our guide, Raven, was knowledgeable, friendly and patient. She pointed out the things to see and informed us of the biodiversity (e.g. birds, jellyfish, molluscs, crabs, plants) and history of the area. The mangrove canopy was very enjoyable. The water is mostly clear and shallow, so the clear kayak gives you another perspective at looking what's underneath. Halfway through the tour, we stopped at an island where we collected sea shells and took pictures. This is a excellent tour for everybody!

The the 3pm tour was a great way to spend the afternoon exploring the mangroves and Shell Key. The sun was beginning it's slow descent to the west so the light shimmered across the water and it was not too hot. Sadly we did not see any manatees nor dolphins, but we did see lots of birds, including white pelicans, and underwater creatures like jellyfish. There had been a big storm a couple of days prior to our trip, so the water was still quite churned up. The mangroves were gorgeous and Shell Key is beautiful. The kayak experience was nice. Our guide Chris was at the ready with our many questions and was at our beck and call to take photos. It was a delightful tour.

I loved when we stopped at the little island and picked up some beautiful sea shells. Tour guide was very knowledgeable about the surrounding wild life and we learned many new things about Florida animals and plants.
