Due to covid, som etf the homes were closed, but this was well displYed on their website and at the entry foyer, so I was happy with that aspect. Always nice to know prior to entry. We picked a lovely day and we really learnt a lot about its past history.

We bought our tickets ahead of time and paid the reduced fee ($25) to enter Colonial Williamsburg. Literally, nothing was open to view minus a few buildings with long wait times so we just walked around for one hour and left. There was limited staff dressed in costume mostly talking to each other in groups vs talking to tourists. We were honestly disappointed there were not more real-life events going on outside around the park. We couldn't even go to the outdoor events on the outdoor stages because they limit the outdoor event numbers too. I really understand the issue with Covid, but it seemed like even at the reduced fee we should have gotten more out of it. Our $50 entrance fee was really a donation which I am fine with, but it would be very helpful to have known this ahead of time that you can just walk around the park without paying an entrance fee if you aren't going to go into any of the buildings. I am giving it three stars only because of our experience during covid ---I am sure it is a lovely place to experience, but we've had more fun biking around Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown than going to "manufactured fun" when it wasn't engaging at all and we are history buffs. My suggestion is to wait unless you hire a private tour guide (which we should have done!) that will walk around with you. We were surprised that the only markers to comment about the buildings were small and on each building but no real history to read about.

Due to Covid, some of the homes were not open, but I still had a great time. My first time in Williamsburg was over a holiday weekend, which was a nightmare. This visit was so informative - was able to leisurely talk with the interpreters and learned so much. I think our longest wait was 5 minutes at the courthouse. My group had no problem understanding presenters with masks on. I felt the reduced admission was well worth it especially since it included admission to the DeWitt Wallace Museum which also had interpreters on site.
