Best place to experience colonial America! To walk down Duke of Gloucester Street, is taking a walk back in time. We visited at Christmastime with the scent of fireplaces burning on a crisp cool day. The period decor of holiday wreaths and garlands was elegant and beautiful. A visit to Colonial Williamsburg is well worth the trip!

We have been to Williamsburg several times and always enjoyed it. We wanted to see it at Christmas. We were disappointed in the decorations, basically a wreath, a very nice and sometimes interesting wreath, on each door. That is about it. I understand the lack of lights--keeping with tradition, but the place is dark and pretty much everything except restaurants close at 5pm. Very crowded, so lots of other people wanted to see it at Christmas. We would not recommend it.

I’ve been coming to CW since 1968. At that time there were, though I didn’t know it, a number of replica structures. Fast forward to the recent decade and you will find inns and home easily identifiable to Patrick Henry, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Why, even today, you may even encounter Martha Washington riding Isabella, a Cleveland Bay, trotting along DOG street. A personal favorite is the apothecary where you will find my favorite desert “dark chocolate” in a glass container. You see chocolate in colonial times had medicinal attributes. Heck, I’ve always known that. So, take a day, a week, or in my case a lifetime, walking streets and visiting buildings considered common place by our founding fathers.
