If you go to Valdez you absolutely, positively must take this cruise!!! This was the highlight of our trip. The captain was knowledgeable and informative. He had the crew looking through binoculars the whole time to find us wildlife to get closer to. We saw bald eagles, seals, tons of sea otters, and two whales. We went to the Columbia Glacier and the crew caught a piece of glacier ice for us to eat on the way back. We were served a lunch of delicious chowder and bread, there were lots of snacks available for purchase. There were tons of books and newspaper articles for us to look at as the captain taught us the history of the area including the Exxon Valdez oil spill. This tour should not be missed, loved every minute!!!!

If you only have time to do one trip in Valdez, I suggest you should do the Stan Stephens Columbia glacier cruise. The cruise team were fantastic, providing loads of information on Valdez and the sights on the way to, and from, the glacier. The captain also searched for wildlife and, when found, took the boat to them.

We took the Columbia Glacier cruise and upon leaving the harbor we immediately came across a humpback whale. As my wife has wanted to see a whale for years, this alone make our trip. However, it wasn't over. We saw sea lions, sea otters, bald eagles, puffins, bigg orca whales, etc. etc. Additionally, we saw Columbia Glacial ice, but couldn't get up to the glacier due to the amount of ice. Along the way we were educated about the wildlife, glaciers, history of the area, and Exxon Valdez disaster. The staff is very accommodating and interested in making your trip the trip of a lifetime.
